Introduction
In all societies of Afro-Eurasia, gender inequality was reinforced and justified by major cultural traditions. Women were taught in the world religions and philosophies of their supposed "inferior" status compared to the men in their family as well as the men in society. However, not all women faced these forms of patriarchy. Some were able to achieve great accomplishments in their lifetime, challenging the gendered assumptions of women held around the world.
Directions: On this website, you will read about two patriarchal practices that existed in the Pre-Modern Period as well as the lives of extraordinary women. Choose only TWO extraordinary women and take notes on your worksheet in detailed bullet points. |
