Sate Sponsored Industrialization
As the influence of the Industrial Revolution grew, a small number of states and governments promoted their own state-
sponsored visions of industrialization. Those included Japan, Russia, and Egypt. Through technology, some of these states were able to achieve some level of equality with the West and avoid the perils of Imperialism. Well, maybe not Egypt. Even with industrialization, Egypt eventually was colonized by Britain. But Japan was able to avoid war with the west with the Meiji Reforms and they became an empire. Russia would industrialize but the consequences were violence. Follow the links on the maps below to learn about each country.
