Power, Privilege, and Establishing Master Narratives and the fight for social justice

Those systems of power will be analyzed using the four “I”s of oppression (ideology, institutional, interpersonal, and internalized).
Students will aso explore privilege and cultural appropriation, stereotypes: in the media, social media, in imagery, and in real life. Students will deconstruct master narrative, untold story, and the term “white”. Topics covered include reconstruction and Jim Crow, Tulsa Race Riots, redlining and the origins of Social Darwinism and current manifestations. The 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, police brutality, will also be discussed.
