Containment
U.S. and U.S.S.R. wanted to spread their ideologies while “containing” their rivals. The beginning of the Cold War and the containment policy was a result of the USSR influencing Eastern European countries to become communist developing what Churchill called "The Iron Curtain." This also resulted in new alliances like NATO and the Warsaw Pact. It also resulted in policies such as the Truman Doctrine that began during the Greek Civil War. Truman advocated for aid in the form of military aid and financial aid like the Marshall Plan to stop the spread of communism. The Truman doctrine also included the domino theory. These ideological differences created a "Bipolar World." States were forced to choose between one or the other superpower. Caused several regions to be split in half by the U.S. and U.S.S.R.
